The first round of the Austrian Nationals was held in Wien on May 7-8, 2005 on a technical track. This race has 71 drivers from Austria, Czech and Slovak Republic, and they raced in two categories – Modified and Standard. All the best drivers from Austria (Hubert Honigl, Peter Pinish, Michael Kramer, Thomas Pumpler), top Czech drivers and Slovak drivers (Martin and Juraj Hudy) were entered in this race, so it was expected to be a very good race with heavy battles for the win.

On Saturday were the free practice sessions and group practices. The sky was cloudy but rain only began at the end of the evening. In the timed practice, the Austrian drivers Honigl, Pinish, Pumpler were fastest. Team XRAY drivers were also fast with Martin Hudy, Vaclav Strupek, Michael Kramer, and Toni Eder (racing for the first time with XRAY). Martin together with Juraj tested different set-ups all day because this was only the second race with XRAY T1FK'05 on asphalt. All the fastest drivers drove with a solid axle for higher grip, but Martin used the one-way because he had enough grip; his only disadvantage was that he could not brake. In the timed practice, Honigl had the fastest round for Pumpler, Pinish, and Martin. Also Strupek with Pinish had faster rounds together with local driver Oliver Holczer with Robitronic.

The Sunday runs began at 9AM on a wet track from the previous evening. On the schedule were four qualifications of which the 2 best times counted. In the first qualification, Honigl won for local driver Holczer. The track on the second run was dry, and this run was won again by Honigl for Pumpler, Holczer, and Martin Hudy. Martin tested different set-ups for the whole day so in every race he had some changes. The biggest change Martin made was for the third run were he made the fastest lap, but after 6 seconds he made a mistake when he hit the curb, so he feld from second place to fourth. This run was won again Honigl for Pumpler and Holczer and also the fourth run for Pumpler, Pinish, and Martin. Big interference problems were had by Václav Strupek, who raced without this problem only during the last run where he made the 5th best time, but other runs he had problems so he finished in the B final.

Martin Hudy again changed his set-up but this resulted in a not-so-good change. In the first final there were many mistakes and the positions always changed. After the start, Martin fell to 8th place, but with a fast drive he returned on the 4th place, but he made some small mistakes so he ended 7th. This final was won by Honigl for Pinish and Holczer, and also in this final Thomas Pumpler was also fast, but at the 2 minute mark his solid axle was blocked. The second final was lead by Honigl for Pumpler and Martin, but at that moment it begun to rain. Martin started to minimise the difference between to two first drivers Honigl, Pumpler, as they were using a solid axle and on the wet track their cars were understeered. After 3 minutes was this final was stopped and was said would be repeated. In the repeated second final Martin’s start was not so good and he fell back. However, Martin was fighting and after Pumpler’s mistake he was racing close behind him but could not overtake him.

In the third final (30 minutes after the second final) the winner Honigl did not participate. After the start in the first turn, it was Martin in second place and together with Pumpler have made a lead. Pumpler was under pressure from Martin and made a small mistake, so Martin was first. Pumpler tried to overtake Martin, but again he made a small mistake and Pinish overtook him in the last corner.
